Earth fills the lower half of the composition, seen as a full globe hanging in space. The Americas face the viewer: North America and the long sweep of South America are rendered in shimmering gold, while the oceans glow in layered cobalt and sapphire. Brushy white cloud systems spiral across the surface, and tiny glints of gold scatter like city lights across land and sea.
Above the planet, clouds of teal, rose and gold-leaf texture drift through the upper sky, with the Milky Way visible beyond them at the top left. About Planet Earth
Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only world known to support life. About 71 percent of its surface is covered by water, which is why it appears so blue from space. The phrase Blue Marble comes from a photograph taken by the crew of Apollo 17 in December 1972, now one of the most widely reproduced images in history. Earth's atmosphere, thin compared with the planet itself, shields life from much of the Sun's ultraviolet radiation.

Questions & answers
Which side of Earth does the print show?
It shows the Americas. North, Central and South America are picked out in gold, surrounded by blue ocean and swirling white clouds, much like the classic views of Earth photographed from space.
Why does Earth look blue from space?
Mainly because of its oceans, which cover most of the surface and absorb red light while reflecting blue. Sunlight scattering in the atmosphere adds a thin blue haze around the planet's edge.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
