About this artwork
At the heart of this design is one circle divided down the middle. The left half is a golden sun with a calm, sleeping face, its rays flaring out in long spikes; the right half is a silver-grey moon, cratered and cool. Joined this way, they read as two halves of a single day.
A fine gold rectangle is inset within the artwork, framing the scene like a panel in an old almanac, and a gentle band of Milky Way sweeps across the top among sparkling four-pointed stars. The lower half fills with soft clouds in gold, teal and rose that rise towards the disc from either side. As sun and moon wall art, it is quietly symmetrical and easy to live with, suited to anyone who likes the idea of balance between light and dark, activity and rest, without anything too literal.
The Sun and the Moon
Pairing the Sun and Moon is one of the oldest images in art and storytelling. Across many cultures they stand for complementary opposites: day and night, warmth and coolness, action and reflection. In European alchemy, Sol and Luna represented gold and silver. In Chinese philosophy the Sun is associated with yang and the Moon with yin. They are also the only two celestial bodies that appear as discs to the naked eye, and in our sky they look almost exactly the same size.

What does the sun and moon symbol mean?
It usually represents balance between opposites — day and night, masculine and feminine, energy and rest. The meaning varies by tradition, but the shared idea is that two contrasting forces complete each other rather than compete.
Does the sun in the design have a face?
Yes. The golden half shows a serene face with closed eyes, a classic motif from old almanacs, emblems and woodcuts. The silver half is a cratered moon without a face, which keeps the overall look calm and uncluttered.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
