About this artwork
Three large chrysanthemum heads cluster on the right side of the frame. Two are creamy white, with long, curling petals that spill outward like ribbons; the third is a deep golden yellow edged with rust-orange. Dark green leaves and a slim stem tie them together and lead off the right edge.
The background is simple and deliberate. Deep indigo at the top slides into sage green, then into a wide field of warm cream that fills the lower half without interruption. That calm space lets the intricate petals take all the attention. This chrysanthemum print draws on the bird-and-flower tradition but strips it back to the blooms alone, giving it a clean, almost botanical elegance suited to a quiet, uncluttered wall.
The Meaning of the Chrysanthemum
The chrysanthemum, or kiku, is one of Japan's most important symbols. A stylised sixteen-petalled chrysanthemum serves as the Imperial Seal, and the imperial throne is known as the Chrysanthemum Throne. The flower is associated with longevity and with autumn, when chrysanthemum shows are held across the country. It also appears on the Japanese 50-yen coin, and the ninth day of the ninth month was traditionally celebrated as the Chrysanthemum Festival.

Questions & answers
What does the chrysanthemum symbolise in Japan?
It symbolises longevity, nobility and the Japanese imperial family. As the emblem of the Imperial Seal, it carries a sense of dignity and tradition, and it is closely tied to autumn celebrations.
Why is so much of the print left empty?
The open cream space is intentional. Generous negative space is a key japandi and ukiyo-e principle, and here it frames the detailed blooms and keeps the overall look calm and minimal.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
