About this artwork
Across a stretch of glittering water, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque rises in pale stone, its domes stepping up towards the great central dome and its pencil-thin minarets reaching into the evening. The sun is setting just to the right, pouring a broad path of gold across the sea towards the viewer. Above, the sky blends coral, rose and apricot, with clouds brushed in loose, painterly strokes.
Gulls wheel overhead and a small red-and-white fishing boat sits on the water, adding scale and life. The sea itself is turquoise streaked with magenta and gold, and warm cobblestones fill the lower right corner. This Istanbul wall art feels calm and spacious. The lettering at the base reads Istanbul in a sweeping serif, with Turkiye spaced out in capitals underneath.
About the Blue Mosque
The Sultan Ahmed Mosque was built between 1609 and 1616 for Sultan Ahmed I, to designs by the architect Sedefkâr Mehmed Ağa, a pupil of the great Mimar Sinan. It is known as the Blue Mosque for the thousands of blue İznik tiles that line its interior, and its six minarets make it unusual among Istanbul's mosques. It stands in the Sultanahmet district on the historic peninsula, facing Hagia Sophia, and remains an active place of worship.

Questions & answers
Why is it called the Blue Mosque?
Because of its interior. Thousands of blue İznik tiles decorate the walls inside, which gave the Sultan Ahmed Mosque its popular name. From outside, as in this print, the building appears in pale grey stone that turns warm at sunset.
Which part of Istanbul does the print show?
The historic peninsula, home to the Sultanahmet district. The Blue Mosque stands there on high ground near the Sea of Marmara and the mouth of the Bosphorus, and the print looks at it from across the water at sunset.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
