About this artwork

Six tall Doric columns frame this view of the Brandenburg Gate, with the low sun shining through one of the openings on the left. Through the next gap, the slender Berlin TV Tower stands on the horizon, a modern counterpoint to the classical stone. Above the entablature, the Quadriga — a winged goddess driving four horses — glints gold against a turquoise sky.

Long shadows stretch towards the viewer across the paved square, and splashes of magenta and teal play over the sandstone columns like light through coloured glass. Pink clouds drift in from both sides. This Berlin wall art balances strong architecture with a playful palette. Along the bottom, Berlin appears in a slim italic serif, with Germany beneath it in widely spaced capitals.

About the Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia and completed in 1791 to designs by Carl Gotthard Langhans, who took inspiration from the Propylaea of the Acropolis in Athens. Its Quadriga, by the sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow, was carried off to Paris by Napoleon in 1806 and returned in 1814. During the Cold War the gate stood beside the Berlin Wall; after the Wall fell in 1989 it became a symbol of German reunification. It stands at Pariser Platz, at the western end of Unter den Linden.

How to style it

Works in a study, a modern living room or an office with clean lines and black metal accents. Hung with the Prague design, it makes a crisp Central European pair. Explore the full Golden Hour Cities collection.

Questions & answers

What is the tall tower visible through the columns?

It is the Berlin TV Tower, the Fernsehturm on Alexanderplatz. Completed in 1969, it is the tallest structure in Germany, and in this design it is glimpsed through the gate as a modern echo of the classical columns.

What does the sculpture on top of the gate show?

It is the Quadriga, a chariot drawn by four horses and driven by a winged goddess of victory. Designed by Johann Gottfried Schadow, it is rendered here in gleaming gold against the turquoise sky.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
