About this artwork
Schönbrunn's long Baroque façade stretches across the frame in its famous warm yellow, rows of tall windows and white-trimmed pilasters leading to the central block with its double staircase. The sun sets on the left, just above the roofline, spilling golden light and haze across the gardens. Pink clouds bloom in a turquoise sky.
The formal parterre fills the middle ground with clipped green hedges and beds of pink and red flowers, flanked by tall hedge walls. In the foreground, a fountain throws up a sparkling jet from a round basin, its water glinting with gold, magenta and teal. This Vienna wall art is refined but never stiff. Vienna is set in a classic serif across the basin, with Austria in small capitals below.
About Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence of the Habsburg emperors. Its Baroque form largely dates from the reign of Empress Maria Theresa in the mid-18th century, when the architect Nikolaus Pacassi remodelled the earlier palace. The ochre tone of its façade is known as Schönbrunn yellow. On the garden side, formal parterres stretch towards the Gloriette on the hill, and the grounds also hold the Tiergarten Schönbrunn, founded in 1752 and the oldest zoo still operating. The palace and gardens were listed by UNESCO in 1996.

Questions & answers
Why is Schönbrunn Palace yellow?
Its façade is painted in a warm ochre known as Schönbrunn yellow, a colour closely associated with the Habsburg monarchy and used on many imperial buildings. At sunset, as in this print, it glows almost gold.
What is in the foreground of the Vienna print?
A fountain in a round stone basin, its sparkling jet catching the sunset. Behind it, clipped hedges and flower beds form the palace's formal parterre, leading the eye up to the yellow façade.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
