About this artwork

Shibuya's famous scramble crossing opens out in front of the viewer, its zebra stripes painted in pink, white and teal across a road still wet from a passing shower. At the centre, a cylindrical tower rises between rows of buildings stacked with billboards in pink, cyan and gold, including a large anime-style portrait on the left. The sun burns in the upper right, softened by drifting haze.

Cherry blossom branches hang across the top of the frame, and petals fall over the crossing and onto the tarmac. The sky is clear turquoise with white clouds. This Tokyo wall art is airy and sunlit, its colour coming from signage, blossom and sky rather than darkness and glow. The words Tokyo and Japan sit at the base, set in a serif and small capitals.

About Shibuya Crossing

Shibuya Crossing, outside the Hachikō exit of Shibuya Station, is often described as the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world. When the lights change, traffic stops in every direction and crowds flood across at once, including diagonally — the 'scramble' that gives it its local name. The cylindrical Shibuya 109 building, a fashion landmark since 1979, stands nearby. Close to the station is the statue of Hachikō, the loyal Akita dog who waited there for his late owner for years.

How to style it

A lively pick for a creative studio, a gaming room or a living room with bold colour and modern furniture. It completes a spring trio with the Osaka and Seoul blossom designs. Explore the full Golden Hour Cities collection.

Questions & answers

Is this the night-time Shibuya design?

No, this is the daytime version from the Golden Hour Cities collection, with blue sky, sunshine and cherry blossom. A separate night version of Tokyo exists for anyone who wants neon glow and darker tones.

What is the round tower in the middle of the view?

It recalls Shibuya 109, the cylindrical fashion building that has been a Shibuya landmark since 1979. In the print it stands at the centre of the scramble crossing view, surrounded by billboards and blossom.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
