About this artwork
Wat Arun rises at the centre of this composition, its tall central prang glittering in gold, jade and coral, flanked by smaller towers on either side. The sun hangs low just to the left, sinking into banks of coral cloud, and a pale sky fades upward into soft blue. Red-roofed pavilions and dark tropical trees line the riverbank, with a red-and-teal longtail boat resting at the water's edge.
The Chao Phraya does much of the work: the temple's reflection stretches down the river in shimmering bands of gold, turquoise and pink. In the foreground, lotus flowers open among round lily pads, framing the view. Watercolour-style washes keep everything soft and luminous. This Bangkok wall art finishes with the city name in a flowing serif and Thailand in small capitals beneath.
About Wat Arun
Wat Arun Ratchawararam, the Temple of Dawn, stands on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya River, facing Bangkok's old royal quarter. It takes its name from Aruna, the Hindu god of dawn. Its central prang, a Khmer-style tower symbolising Mount Meru, is encrusted with fragments of coloured porcelain and seashells arranged into flowers. Seen from the opposite bank, the sun sets behind the temple, which is why late afternoon is a favourite time to watch the tower glitter.

Why is Wat Arun called the Temple of Dawn?
The name comes from Aruna, the Hindu god of dawn. Despite the name, many visitors watch the temple at the end of the day, when the sun sets behind its central prang as seen from the opposite bank of the Chao Phraya.
What do the lotus flowers in the foreground add?
They frame the view and soften the composition. The pink lotus blossoms and lily pads lead the eye from the bottom edge up the river reflection to the temple, and they echo the coral tones in the sky.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
