About this artwork
The cathedral's facade fills the frame from edge to edge, a dense forest of pinnacles, statues and tracery climbing into a deep blue sky. Pink clouds drift behind the spires, while the stone itself shifts from cool silver-violet at the top to warm gold at the base.
Light seems to come from inside: the tall windows above the doors glow orange and amber, and the carved portals are washed in gold. At the right edge a neighbouring building shows lit windows, and mist curls along the foot of the facade. The piazza in front is wet, so the colours fall in streaks of magenta, gold and teal. Pure Gothic drama, elegant rather than dark, this Milan night print rewards close looking. Low across the piazza, the city name is lettered in a classic serif, with 'Italy' in small spaced capitals below.
About the Duomo di Milano at Night
The Duomo di Milano is faced in pale pink-and-white Candoglia marble, which takes on a soft glow under the evening floodlights. On its highest spire stands the gilded Madonnina, lit after dark and long regarded as the symbolic high point of the city. Beside the cathedral, the glass-roofed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II opens off the piazza, and the streets around fill for aperitivo, the early-evening ritual of drinks and small bites that Milan is known for.

Questions & answers
Does the Milan print show the cathedral's main facade?
Yes. The design faces the main front of the Duomo across the piazza, with its spires, statues and glowing upper windows filling most of the frame.
Does the Milan design feel gothic or modern?
Both. The architecture is pure Gothic, but the pink clouds and the neon colours reflected in the wet piazza give it a contemporary, cinematic finish.
Is a frame included?
