Osaka Castle's main keep rises tier upon tier into a deep blue sky, its white walls lit warm and its green roofs edged with gold. It stands on a towering base of fitted stone, half lost in shadow and mist, which makes the glowing keep above seem to float.
Cherry trees in full bloom frame the scene from both sides, their pink blossom glowing as if lit from below, and loose petals are scattered across the wet road. A street lamp shines on the left, a low building on the right glows through warm windows, and a lone figure stands small beneath the walls. Soft pink, jade and gold play against blue, with a few neon flashes in the reflections. Tender rather than moody, this Osaka night print shows Japanese spring at its most romantic. The city name rests over the road in a soft serif, 'Japan' in small capitals below it.
About Osaka Castle at Night
Osaka Castle's main keep, rebuilt in the 20th century on its massive historic stone walls, is lit every evening and stands out above the trees of Osaka Castle Park. In spring the park is one of the city's favourite places for hanami, and yozakura, the custom of viewing cherry blossom at night, draws evening crowds beneath the lights. Nishinomaru Garden, inside the castle grounds, is known for its illuminated blossom, with the keep rising behind the trees.

Are the cherry blossoms lit at night in the Osaka print?
Yes. The blossom glows pink against the dark sky, lit by the castle and the street below, in the spirit of yozakura, Japan's custom of night-time cherry blossom viewing.
What are the stone walls below Osaka Castle in the design?
They are the castle's massive dry-stone foundations, built from huge fitted blocks. In the design they rise in shadow beneath the lit keep, giving the tower its sense of weight.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
