About this artwork

Two walls of dark shophouses close in on either side, and at the end of the lane Wat Arun rises against a saffron sky, its tiered central prang picked out in tiny points of colour. A red-trimmed river boat rests on the Chao Phraya just beyond, and smaller spires flank the temple in the haze.

This Bangkok night print is built on contrast. The buildings on the right glow through magenta-framed windows, the left side dissolves into shadow and drifting mist, and the flooded street in front holds an almost perfect reflection of the temple. Pink lotus flowers and lily pads bloom in the lower corner, softening the urban edge. The palette moves from amber and gold to violet and electric pink, a moody depth that comes alive under low evening light. 'Bangkok' floats over the reflection in a refined serif, and 'Thailand' sits beneath in small capitals.

About Wat Arun at Night

Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, stands on the Thonburi bank of Bangkok's Chao Phraya River. Despite its name, many visitors know it best after sunset, when the central prang is floodlit and its porcelain mosaics glow across the water. Riverside terraces in the Tha Tien neighbourhood face it from the opposite bank, and evening dinner cruises slow as they pass. A short ride away, Yaowarat Road in Chinatown becomes one of the city's best-known street-food strips once night falls.

How to style it

Strong enough to anchor a living or dining room wall, especially against charcoal, teal or warm white. It sits naturally beside other temple and neon scenes in the collection, such as Hanoi, Taipei or Tokyo. Explore the full Cities at Night collection.

Questions & answers

Why is Wat Arun seen down an alley in this print?

The narrow street works as a frame. Dark shophouse walls on either side push the eye straight to the temple, and the wet ground below adds a second, reflected spire.

Is the city name part of the Bangkok artwork?

Yes. 'Bangkok' is set in an elegant serif at the foot of the design with 'Thailand' in small capitals beneath, printed as part of the image rather than added on top.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
