About this artwork

Taipei 101 rises through the centre of the composition, its stacked, flaring sections glowing gold and orange like a column of lanterns. The setting sun sits low on the right, half hidden by pink cloud. All around the tower, red and orange sky lanterns drift upward, large ones close to the viewer and tiny ones far off, giving the scene real depth.

The sky moves from turquoise at the top through hot pink and magenta to bands of gold near the horizon, with touches that shimmer like gold leaf. Billowing clouds and mist gather at the tower's base, and dark rocks frame a stretch of reflective water in the foreground. This Taipei wall art feels like a wish being made. Taipei appears in a serif italic at the base, Taiwan in small capitals beneath.

About Taipei 101

Taipei 101 was completed in 2004 and held the title of the world's tallest building until the Burj Khalifa opened in 2010. Designed by C.Y. Lee and Partners, it is shaped like a stalk of bamboo or a stacked pagoda, with eight segments of eight floors each — eight being a lucky number in Chinese culture. Inside hangs a giant tuned mass damper, a steel sphere that steadies the tower in typhoons and earthquakes. Sky lanterns are released in Taiwan around the Lantern Festival, most famously at Pingxi in New Taipei.

Questions & answers

What are the floating lights in the Taipei print?

Sky lanterns. In Taiwan, paper lanterns are traditionally released around the Lantern Festival, often carrying written wishes, and Pingxi in New Taipei is famous for them. The print brings that tradition together with Taipei 101 in one festive scene.

Why does Taipei 101 have eight sections?

Because eight is a lucky number in Chinese culture. The tower is built in eight segments of eight floors each, and its stacked, flaring shape is often compared to bamboo or a pagoda — the glowing tiers that dominate this design.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
