About this artwork
A huge golden moon fills the upper part of the frame, its surface softly mottled with darker shadows. In front of it, tall plumes of silver grass sweep up and across the composition, their feathery heads drawn in fine, hatched lines that catch the moonlight.
Long grass blades in rust, olive and teal curve through the lower half, and low terracotta hills sit along the bottom edge. The sky grades from deep navy at the top through rich teal to a warm cream glow near the ground, so the moon seems to rise out of the evening. The combination of gold, silver and teal gives this harvest moon print a rich but restful palette, full of the quiet of an autumn night.
About Tsukimi, Japanese Moon Viewing
Tsukimi is the Japanese custom of admiring the autumn full moon, traditionally held on the fifteenth night of the eighth month of the old lunar calendar, which usually falls in September or early October. Homes set out offerings of susuki silver grass and round rice dumplings called tsukimi dango. Susuki is one of the seven flowers of autumn in Japanese poetry, and many people in Japan see a rabbit pounding rice cakes in the moon's markings.

Questions & answers
What is susuki grass?
Susuki is Japanese silver grass, Miscanthus sinensis, a tall grass with feathery autumn plumes. It is the traditional decoration for tsukimi, the autumn moon-viewing festival.
Is this a good print for an autumn gallery wall?
Yes. The golden moon, rust grasses and terracotta hills tie in with autumn tones, yet the deep teal sky keeps it striking all year, so it anchors a seasonal wall without dating it.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
