About this artwork
A kingfisher sits at the top of a slender green stem in the centre of the frame, its back and wings a brilliant teal, its breast a warm orange and its long dark beak pointed toward the right. A white throat patch and a small white mark behind the eye add sharp detail.
Tall bulrushes with rust-brown seed heads rise on the left, and a pale coral flower with a golden centre opens in the lower corner beside its buds. Behind, still water stretches to a sandy spit and a hazy line of trees in soft yellow, as if seen through morning mist. The sky runs from deep teal-blue at the top to cream, and the water deepens to teal below. This kingfisher art print is all about a single bright spark of colour held in a calm, open setting.
About the Kingfisher
The common kingfisher, kawasemi in Japanese, lives along clear rivers and ponds across much of Europe, Asia and North Africa. In Japan it is often called the jewel of the clear stream for its colour. That brilliant blue is structural, created by the way its feathers scatter light rather than by pigment. Japanese engineers famously modelled the nose of the 500 Series Shinkansen on the kingfisher's beak to reduce noise when the train enters tunnels.

Questions & answers
What kind of kingfisher is in the print?
It is a common kingfisher, recognisable by its teal-blue back, orange underparts and long dagger-like beak. It is the kingfisher found across Japan, Europe and much of Asia, often seen perched above still water.
Will the bright kingfisher clash with neutral decor?
No. The bird is a small, vivid accent within a mostly cream, sand and soft teal scene, so it brightens neutral rooms without overpowering them.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
