About this artwork
Two open pink lotus flowers and a cluster of broad, veined leaves rise from the lower right corner, their stems reaching up out of dark water. One closed bud stands taller than the rest, and a small dragonfly rests on its tip, wings spread.
Behind the plants, the sun sits half-risen on the horizon, casting a coral and ochre glow across the water, where small ripples catch the light. The sky above is mostly open: cream fading into blue at the top edge, with a faint washi-like texture throughout. The contrast between the deep water and the clean pink blooms is the heart of the image. This lotus wall art carries a meditative calm and works well wherever you want a sense of renewal.
The Meaning of the Lotus
The lotus grows from muddy pond beds yet opens clean and unmarked above the water, so in Buddhism it symbolises purity and spiritual awakening. Buddhas are often shown seated on a lotus throne. In Japan, lotus ponds bloom in summer, and the flowers open in the early morning and close again by the afternoon. The dragonfly has deep roots here too: Akitsushima, an ancient poetic name for Japan, is often read as the island of dragonflies.

Questions & answers
What does the lotus flower symbolise?
The lotus symbolises purity, rebirth and enlightenment. Because it rises from mud to bloom spotless above the water, it is a central image in Buddhist art and a meaningful choice for meditation and wellbeing spaces.
What is the small insect on the bud?
It is a dragonfly. In Japan the dragonfly is a familiar summer insect with a long cultural history, and here it adds a delicate point of detail and scale to the composition.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
