About this artwork
One heavy branch of cherry blossom enters from the top right corner and arches down across the frame, its dark twigs crowded with pale pink flowers and touches of fresh green. The lowest clusters hang like a curtain on the left, and a loose trail of single petals falls toward the bottom of the image.
Everything else is open sky. Blue and soft green sit behind the blossom at the top, melting into a wide band of cream and finally a warm terracotta glow at the base. That large empty field gives the falling petals room to breathe and makes the branch feel lighter than its size. This cherry blossom print is about one fleeting moment in spring: the flowers at their fullest, already beginning to let go.
The Meaning of Sakura
Sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom, is one of Japan's most cherished symbols. Its flowers last only a short time before the petals scatter, so it has long expressed mono no aware, a gentle awareness of the passing of things. The Somei Yoshino cherry, the variety most often planted along rivers and in parks, was developed in Edo, today's Tokyo. A flurry of falling petals even has its own name: hanafubuki, or flower blizzard.

Questions & answers
What does the falling petal motif mean?
It represents the brief beauty of life. In Japan, scattering cherry petals are a classic image of transience, reminding the viewer to enjoy a moment fully because it will not last.
Is the lower part of the print intentionally empty?
Yes. The wide cream and terracotta space is a deliberate part of the composition. It lets the petals drift freely and keeps the print calm and airy, in line with japandi ideas of restraint.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
