About this artwork
A white fox sits upright in the lower centre of the frame, tail resting beside it and eyes half closed, perfectly composed. Plumes of silver grass rise on both sides, mixed with long blades in rust and terracotta, so the fox appears tucked into a small clearing.
Above, a pale full moon hangs in a deep blue night sky. Soft wisps of white mist curl across the middle of the scene, and bands of green and ochre near the horizon suggest distant fields still holding the last light. The palette of indigo, cream and rust keeps the mood hushed and slightly magical. This fox and moon art print feels like a moment from a folk tale, quiet enough to hang where you rest.
Kitsune in Japanese Folklore
In Japanese folklore the fox, kitsune, is a clever and sometimes magical creature, said to grow extra tails as it gains age and wisdom, up to nine. Foxes are also revered as messengers of Inari, the kami of rice and prosperity, and fox statues guard Inari shrines across Japan, including Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto. White foxes in particular are regarded as auspicious messengers of the kami.
How to style it
Suits bedrooms, reading nooks and living rooms with navy, rust or cream accents. Pairs with the harvest moon design, which shares the same moonlit silver grass. Explore the full Japandi Wall Art collection.

Questions & answers
What does a white fox mean in Japan?
A white fox is seen as an auspicious messenger of Inari, the Shinto kami of rice, harvests and prosperity. In Japanese folklore, white foxes are linked to good fortune, protection and the spirit world.
Is the fox and moon print suitable for a child's room?
Yes. The fox is calm and gentle rather than fierce, and the soft night palette has a storybook quality, so it suits children's rooms as well as adult bedrooms.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
