About this artwork
A gnarled wisteria vine winds along a curved wooden arch across the top of the frame, and from it long clusters of purple flowers hang straight down. The clusters vary in length, some reaching nearly halfway to the bottom, their colour shading from pale lilac at the top to deep violet at the tips. Fresh green leaves fill the corners.
Through the arch, the view opens onto a calm lake with a low, tree-lined far shore mirrored in the water. The sky moves from soft lavender down through cream and gold to a coral band along the treeline, while the water deepens from pale aqua to blue. This wisteria print is soft and romantic, with the arch acting like a frame within a frame.
About Wisteria
Wisteria is called fuji in Japanese, a word written with a different character from the name of Mount Fuji. Japanese wisteria, Wisteria floribunda, is native to Japan and flowers from late April into May, its long clusters hanging from trellises and arbours. Kameido Tenjin Shrine in Tokyo, with wisteria trailing near its arched bridges, was pictured by Hiroshige in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, and wisteria festivals still draw visitors every spring.

Questions & answers
When does wisteria bloom in Japan?
Wisteria usually blooms from late April to mid-May in Japan, after the cherry blossom. Its arrival marks the turn from spring toward early summer, and many shrines and gardens hold wisteria viewing festivals.
What colours are in the wisteria print?
Lilac and violet blooms lead the palette, supported by leaf green, warm wood brown, cream and coral in the sky, and soft aqua to blue in the water. The overall feel is pastel and calm.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
