About this artwork
Two koi turn through deep teal water in the lower half of the composition, their orange scales and white fins outlined in fine ink-like lines. Each fish trails a set of concentric ripples, and round lily pads float around the edges of the pond. The movement is slow and circular, the way koi drift in a garden pond on a still day.
Above the waterline the scene opens into a quiet landscape: pale water reaching back to terracotta hills, cream cloud bands and a sky deepening to blue. The palette pairs teal and sage with warm orange and sand, so the fish read as bright accents without overwhelming the calm. This koi fish art print brings water, colour and a sense of good fortune to a wall in one balanced image.
The Meaning of the Koi
Koi, or nishikigoi, are ornamental varieties of the common carp, selectively bred in Japan from the nineteenth century, with Niigata Prefecture widely cited as their birthplace. Kept in garden ponds, they are associated with good fortune, strength and perseverance. The word koi for carp also sounds the same as a Japanese word for love, which adds to its appeal as a gift. Well-kept koi can live for several decades.
How to style it

Questions & answers
What do koi fish symbolise?
Koi symbolise good fortune, perseverance and strength in Japanese culture. In this design the two fish swim together, a gentle image of companionship that makes it a thoughtful housewarming or wedding gift.
Which room suits a koi fish print?
Bathrooms, studies and entryways suit it well. The teal water and lily pads feel fresh and clean, while the orange koi add warmth, so the print sits comfortably near natural wood, stone and green plants.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
