About this artwork
A lone longtail boat rests in the shallows, its wooden hull painted deep red and brown, a canopy over the middle and colourful ribbons tied to its upswept prow. Its long propeller shaft trails into the water at the stern. Behind it, a sheer limestone karst rises from the sea, its grey stone edged with gold where the first light strikes, with jungle clinging to its base.
The sun sits just above the horizon on the right, sending a column of gold and magenta across the water. The sky glows candy pink, fading to orange around the sun. In the foreground, the sea is so clear that pebbles and rocks show through the turquoise. This Phuket wall art is pure tropical calm. The name Phuket sits in a serif italic over the water, with Thailand in small capitals.
About the Longtail Boat
The longtail boat, or ruea hang yao, is the classic small boat of southern Thailand. Its narrow wooden hull is driven by an engine mounted on a pivot at the stern, with a long propeller shaft that can be lifted to clear shallow reefs and sandbanks. Boatmen often tie colourful ribbons and garlands to the bow as offerings to Mae Ya Nang, the guardian spirit of boats. Around Phuket, Thailand's largest island, longtails carry visitors to beaches and to the limestone islands of nearby Phang Nga Bay.

Questions & answers
Why are there ribbons on the front of the boat?
They follow a Thai boating tradition. Colourful ribbons and garlands are tied to the prow of longtail boats as offerings to Mae Ya Nang, the guardian spirit believed to protect the boat and its passengers.
Is it sunrise or sunset in the Phuket print?
Sunrise. The design shows the first light of the day over the water, with the sun just above the horizon and the edges of the limestone cliff catching gold, which gives the print its fresh, quiet mood.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
