About this artwork
Mars hangs at the centre in rich rust and terracotta, its surface mottled with ochre plains and darker patches. A crisp white polar cap sits at the top of the globe, and a long dark rift crosses its face, recalling the planet's vast canyon systems. A small flare of light breaks over the upper right edge, as if the Sun were just catching the rim.
The background is a deep indigo field, with a broad river of Milky Way in the top right corner and several bright gold stars on the left. Clouds gather below in teal, gold-leaf texture and soft pink, so the planet seems to rise out of them. Earthy and warm, this Mars wall art brings a sense of exploration to a room — a nod to the rovers that roam its surface and our long curiosity about the red neighbour next door.
About Mars
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and gets its red colour from iron oxide — essentially rust — in its dust and rocks. It has polar caps of water ice that are topped in winter by frosts of frozen carbon dioxide. The planet is home to Olympus Mons, the largest known volcano in the Solar System, and Valles Marineris, a canyon system thousands of kilometres long. A day on Mars lasts only slightly longer than a day on Earth. Mars has two small moons, Phobos and Deimos.
How to style it

Questions & answers
Why is Mars red?
Mars looks red because its surface dust and rocks are rich in iron oxide, the same compound as rust. Fine dust lifted into its thin atmosphere also tints the Martian sky, which is why the planet glows orange-red even to the naked eye.
What is the white patch at the top of the planet?
It represents one of Mars's polar ice caps. The real caps contain water ice, and in each hemisphere's winter a layer of frozen carbon dioxide spreads over them before retreating again in spring.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
