About this artwork
Osaka Castle's main keep stands tall on its massive stone base, tier upon tier of white walls and jade-green roofs trimmed with gold. A bright spring sun shines in the upper right, its rays fanning across a clear blue sky with clouds piled behind the castle. The light is clear and open, more midday brightness than evening glow.
Cherry blossom frames the scene: pink branches hang in from the top left, and flowering trees crowd the moat's banks, with one tree blazing in coral red. The moat below mirrors the castle in turquoise and pink, its surface scattered with fallen petals, and the huge fitted stones of the walls are drawn with care. This Osaka wall art celebrates hanami season, finished with Osaka in a serif italic and Japan in small capitals beneath.
About Osaka Castle
Osaka Castle was founded in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the warlord who unified Japan, on the site of an earlier temple fortress. The original keep was destroyed in the sieges of 1614–1615 and later rebuilt, only to be lost to lightning in 1665. Today's main tower is a 1931 reconstruction, restored in the 1990s, and houses a museum. It rises above huge stone walls and moats in Osaka Castle Park, one of the city's favourite spots for hanami, the spring custom of viewing cherry blossom.

Questions & answers
Is Osaka Castle original?
The stone walls and moats are historic, but the main keep is a 1931 reconstruction. The castle was founded in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, and the current tower was restored in the 1990s.
When is cherry blossom season at Osaka Castle?
Usually from late March to early April, depending on the weather. The print captures that short window, with pink and coral blossom around the moat and petals floating on the water.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
