About this artwork
A plump little sparrow sits on a camellia branch in the upper half of the frame, its chestnut cap, black cheek spot and streaked brown wings drawn in fine detail. The branch runs diagonally from upper left to lower right, carrying glossy leaves in deep blue-green and sage, a few tight red buds and one fully open camellia with a golden centre.
The background is a soft apricot and cream, crossed by faint cloud bands and leaving a large, quiet space below the branch. The overall look is light and warm, closer to a page from a nature notebook than a dramatic landscape. This sparrow art print celebrates small, everyday beauty, and its gentle palette fits easily into family spaces.
About the Sparrow and the Camellia
The suzume of Japanese towns and rice fields is the Eurasian tree sparrow, recognisable by its chestnut cap and the black spot on each white cheek. It appears in well-loved folk tales such as The Tongue-Cut Sparrow. The camellia, or tsubaki, is native to Japan and blooms in the cold months from winter into spring, so it is often paired with birds in kachō-e prints that celebrate the seasons.

Questions & answers
What kind of sparrow is shown?
It is a Eurasian tree sparrow, the common sparrow of Japan, identified by its chestnut-brown cap and black cheek spot. It is a familiar garden bird across much of Europe and Asia.
Is this print suitable for a child's room?
Yes. The small bird, soft red flowers and warm cream background create a gentle, cheerful image with no dark or dramatic elements, so it suits nurseries and children's rooms well.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
