Sunflower Path and Red Bicycle — Anime Art Print

About this artwork

A pale dirt lane curves away from the viewer through a field of sunflowers that stretches on both sides towards a band of green trees and soft blue hills. On the right, a red bicycle with a wire basket and a brown saddle leans against a weathered wooden fence, as if its rider has wandered off into the flowers. The sunflower heads closest to us are large and detailed, with dark centres and bright yellow petals, while those further back melt into a golden haze.

Overhead, a huge white cumulus cloud billows up into a deep blue sky, built from small, mosaic-like strokes that give it a tactile texture. Dragonflies hover at different distances, sunbeams slant down from the top of the frame and yellow petals float on the breeze. Small white daisies edge the path. This sunflower anime print captures a slow summer day in the countryside: bright, warm and full of nostalgia.

About Sunflowers

The common sunflower, Helianthus annuus, is native to North America and is now grown around the world for its seeds and oil. Young sunflowers turn to follow the sun during the day, a behaviour called heliotropism, but most mature flower heads stop moving and face east. Each large head is in fact a cluster of many tiny florets arranged in interlocking spirals. Dragonflies, like those drifting through this scene, have long been an emblem of summer and early autumn in Japanese poetry and art.

How to style it

Brings sunshine to a kitchen, sunroom, child's bedroom or farmhouse-style living room with white or cream walls. Hang it next to the summer hill design for two bright, cloud-filled skies. Explore the full Anime Sky Art collection.
