Two scarlet macaws sit shoulder to shoulder on a curving brown branch, both turned to the left as if watching the same thing. Their plumage is built from short, thick strokes of scarlet, sunflower yellow and cobalt blue, and their long red tails hang almost to the lower edge of the frame. Behind them a round golden sun sinks into a sky of pink and tangerine, its glow laid down in swirling, ridged marks.
Everything else is jungle. Monstera leaves in emerald, jade and lime crowd every corner, orange-and-blue bird of paradise flowers spike out of the greenery on both sides, and two large coral-pink hibiscus blooms anchor the bottom of the composition. About Scarlet Macaws
The scarlet macaw (Ara macao) is one of the largest parrots in the Americas, living in humid lowland forests from southern Mexico through Central America to the Amazon basin. Its bare white face, pale upper bill and red, yellow and blue plumage make it easy to recognise. Macaws are usually seen in pairs or small family groups, and mated pairs form long-lasting bonds. The scarlet macaw is also the national bird of Honduras.
