Egrets in Japanese Art
In Japanese, the word sagi covers both herons and egrets, and the white egret, or shirasagi, is a familiar sight in rice paddies and wetlands. Its patient stillness made it a favourite subject of kachō-e, the bird-and-flower genre, and of early twentieth-century printmakers such as Ohara Koson. The bird's elegance also gave a nickname to Himeji Castle, known as the White Heron Castle for its brilliant white walls.

Questions & answers
Is the bird a heron or an egret?
It is a white egret, a member of the heron family. In Japanese both birds are called sagi, which is why the design is often described as a white heron.
Does this print suit a bathroom?
Yes. The cool teal water, soft reeds and minimal composition feel clean and calm, which works well in bathrooms and spa-style spaces, especially with natural stone or pale wood.
Is a frame included?
