About this artwork
A single pine grows from the top of a rugged cliff on the left, its twisted trunk leaning out over empty air. The branches spread in flat, cloud-like pads of dark green needles, a shape familiar from Japanese gardens and bonsai. The cliff face below is cut into planes of terracotta, grey and moss green.
To the right, the view drops away to the sea. A bank of white mist hangs above the water, and rows of teal waves roll in with white crests along the bottom edge. The sky grades from cream at the horizon through pale green to deep blue. This pine tree print balances solid rock against soft air and moving water, giving it a steady, resilient character that rewards a long look.
About the Japanese Pine
The pine, or matsu, stays green all year, so in Japan it has long symbolised longevity, steadfastness and endurance. The Japanese black pine grows naturally along the coast and tolerates salt-laden wind, which shapes it into the leaning, twisted forms seen on rocky shores. Pine branches feature in kadomatsu, the New Year decorations placed beside entrances, and gardeners spend years pruning pines into the layered silhouettes that this design echoes.

Questions & answers
What does a windswept pine symbolise?
It symbolises resilience and longevity. A pine that keeps growing on an exposed cliff, shaped but not broken by the wind, is a classic Japanese image of quiet endurance through hardship.
Is this print suitable for a coastal home?
Yes. The teal sea, white surf and rugged cliff give it a natural coastal character, while the muted greens and blues keep it calmer than a typical seaside poster.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
