Girl on a Summer Hill — Anime Sky Art Print

About this artwork

A girl in a white sundress and a straw hat stands on the crest of a grassy hill, her back to us and her long dark hair lifted by the wind. In front of her a single enormous cloud climbs almost to the top of the frame, its white mass built from countless small, textured strokes that catch the light. Shafts of sunlight slant in from the upper left, and loose petals drift across the deep cobalt sky.

The hillside below is thick with green grass and wildflowers: white daisies, red and orange blooms and small flecks of violet. Far off to the left, a valley and soft blue hills fade towards the horizon, giving the scene a real sense of height and space. This summer anime wall art keeps the figure small against the sky, so the mood is less about a story and more about the feeling of a long, warm afternoon with nowhere to be.

About Towering Summer Clouds

Tall, cauliflower-shaped clouds like this one are cumulus clouds growing upwards on warm afternoons. As the sun heats the ground, pockets of warm, moist air rise, cool and condense into cloud. On unstable days they can keep building into cumulonimbus, the thunderstorm cloud, whose top may spread out into a flat anvil. In Japan the towering summer cloud is called nyūdōgumo, and it is a classic seasonal word for summer in haiku. Bright cumulus over green hills is also one of the defining images of Japanese animation-style skies.

How to style it

Suits bedrooms, reading corners and bright living rooms with white, sky-blue or sage walls, especially in a natural wood frame. Pair it with the sunflower field design for a sunny summer duo. Explore the full Anime Sky Art collection.
