About this artwork
A baby hippo has settled down in a shallow pool, its round body half-submerged and its front feet resting in the water. It gazes to the left with bright little eyes and a contented, closed-mouth smile, and its small rounded ears are flushed pink inside. A rosy dot of terracotta warms its cheek.
The hide is a soft mottle of sage green and dusty blue, patched with sand and terracotta and finished with fine pencil-like wrinkles and a few stray bristles. Gentle ripples circle out around the calf, and the water is dotted with flat green lily pads and pink-and-cream water lilies, three in full bloom and one still in bud. Above and below, the warm off-white paper stays empty and still. A peaceful scene for slow, sleepy days, this hippo nursery print is original digital artwork by ITCLabStudio.
About Hippos
The common hippopotamus lives in rivers, lakes and swamps across sub-Saharan Africa, and its name comes from the Greek for 'river horse'. Hippos spend most of the day in water to keep their sensitive skin cool, then leave at night to graze on grass. Their eyes, ears and nostrils sit high on the head, so they can see, hear and breathe while almost completely submerged. Calves are often born in the water and can suckle there too.
How to style it
Lovely in a safari nursery, a water-themed kids' room or near a changing table, where its calm pool scene can settle a busy moment. Pair it with the elephant and rhino designs for a savanna set, or with the sea turtle for a water theme. Explore the full Woodland & Safari Nursery Art collection.

Questions & answers
What colours are in the baby hippo print?
Mainly sage green and dusty blue for the hippo and water, with patches of sand and terracotta on its hide and soft pink in the water lilies. The off-white background keeps everything airy, so it blends with green, blue or neutral rooms.
Is the hippo print a good gift for a new baby?
Yes. A smiling baby hippo is cheerful without being loud, and the soft, gender-neutral palette means it suits almost any nursery. It also makes a thoughtful baby shower present for parents planning a safari or water theme.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
