About this artwork
A small white cottage with a dark roof and a chimney at each end sits on the left of this Connemara print, sheltered behind a sweeping dry-stone wall. A worn footpath curls past it from the foreground, between rough grass, clumps of heather and pale scattered stones, and heads down towards the sea.
The coast runs off to the right in dark rocky ledges, with white surf breaking over boulders and the water turning silver where the low sun hits it. Fields stitched together by more stone walls climb the green hillside behind the cottage, and mist rolls along its crest. Above, the clouds swell in deep burgundy, ochre and slate blue, building towards a gold glow on the horizon. The brushwork is thick and lively, giving the west of Ireland the romance of an old landscape study.
About Connemara
Connemara is a region in the west of County Galway, on Ireland's Atlantic coast. It is known for its bogs, lakes and mountains, including the Twelve Bens, some of which lie within Connemara National Park, and for a deeply indented shoreline followed by the Wild Atlantic Way touring route. Parts of Connemara are Gaeltacht areas where Irish is spoken as an everyday language, and its small fields are famously divided by dry-stone walls. The region also gives its name to the Connemara pony.

Questions & answers
Is the cottage in the Connemara print a real building?
No. The cottage is an imagined composite of the whitewashed homes and dry-stone walls typical of Connemara's coast, rather than a portrait of one house, so the print captures the character of the region as a whole.
Does the print show the sea?
Yes. The right-hand side opens onto the Atlantic, with waves breaking over a rocky shore and light glinting on the water beneath a dramatic, cloud-filled sky.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
