A single emperor penguin chick stands on a small patch of ground, tipping its head back to gaze up and to the left with a bright, curious eye. The round body is a cloud of fluffy grey down, drawn in fine, feathery pencil-like strokes, with gentle washes of sage green and dusty blue drifting across the chest. Two dark feet with tiny claws grip a loose pool of ochre and terracotta colour beneath it. Everything else is warm off-white, which makes the little chick look even smaller and sweeter. About Emperor Penguins
The emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) is the largest of all penguins and lives only in Antarctica. Unusually, it breeds through the dark Antarctic winter on the sea ice. The father keeps the single egg warm on his feet, under a fold of skin, while the mother feeds at sea. Chicks hatch covered in fluffy grey down with black-and-white heads, and they huddle together in groups called crèches to stay warm while their parents fish.

Questions & answers
Do penguins and polar bears live together?
No. Emperor penguins live in Antarctica, at the bottom of the world, while polar bears live around the Arctic, at the top. They never meet in the wild, but hanging them side by side makes a fun polar pairing and a nice talking point as children grow.
Is the penguin print gender neutral?
Yes. Soft grey, sage, dusty blue and a touch of terracotta give it a calm, natural look with no pink or blue bias. It suits any baby and sits well in grey, white and pale green nurseries.
Is a frame included?
