About this artwork

The village sits on the summit like a crown: stone houses with terracotta roofs pressed together inside a ring of walls, topped by a square bell tower with a pointed red roof and a cross. A smaller tower rises on the left, and a pale sun disc glows behind the highest point. Below, rough golden rocks fall away in steep, faceted slopes dotted with green scrub.

A paved path winds up the hillside in wide S-curves between low stone walls, lined with tall, dark cypresses that stand like exclamation marks. Behind the village, the Mediterranean spreads deep blue to green headlands on both sides, under a cream-gold sky with soft clouds. Two stone houses with red-tiled roofs frame the bottom corners. This Èze poster is an original ITCLabStudio design that echoes the Riviera posters of the 1930s, finished with Èze in navy serif capitals and Côte d'Azur · France beneath.

About Èze

Èze is a medieval perched village on the Côte d'Azur, between Nice and Monaco, set on a rocky peak high above the Mediterranean. Its narrow stone lanes, arches and stairways climb to the Jardin Exotique, a garden of cacti and succulents among the ruins of the old castle, with sweeping sea views. A steep footpath named after Friedrich Nietzsche, who is said to have worked on Thus Spoke Zarathustra while walking it, links the village with Èze-sur-Mer below. The village is also known for its perfumeries.

How to style it

Sunny in a living room, a hallway or a Provençal-style kitchen with stone, olive and terracotta. Pair it with the Taormina design for two hilltop views over the Mediterranean. Explore the full Vintage Travel Posters collection.

Questions & answers

What is a perched village?

A perched village, or village perché, is a settlement built on a hilltop or rocky spur, often for defence. Èze is one of the best-known examples on the Côte d'Azur, and the design exaggerates its summit setting with steep rocks and a winding path.

Is the Èze print a good gift for someone who loves the French Riviera?

Yes. Its stone village, blue sea and cypresses capture the Côte d'Azur in one view, so it suits anyone who has visited Nice, Monaco or the coast between them. It also pairs well with other Mediterranean scenes in the collection.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
