About this artwork
The distinctive shape of the mountain fills the centre of this Kirkjufell print: a steep, symmetrical cone with layered horizontal bands of rock, its slopes in dark moss green and olive. In the foreground, a stream drops over a rocky ledge in two white cascades, then runs on as dark, rippling water between mossy banks and tufts of dry grass.
The sky is where the evening comes alive. A curtain of green aurora streams down from the top of the frame, edged with violet, between thick clusters of burgundy cloud. Lower down, a band of amber and peach twilight glows along the horizon behind the mountain. The colours are deep rather than neon, keeping the scene in the vintage, painterly mood of the rest of the collection while still capturing the magic of a northern night in Iceland, when the land goes quiet and the sky takes over.
About Kirkjufell
Kirkjufell, meaning 'Church Mountain', stands beside the town of Grundarfjörður on the north coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in west Iceland. Its steep, layered cone makes it one of the most photographed mountains in the country, especially when framed by the nearby waterfall Kirkjufellsfoss. In winter, the long, dark nights make it a favourite place to watch the northern lights. The peninsula itself is often called 'Iceland in miniature' for the variety of its landscapes.
How to style it
A natural fit for a bedroom or living room with navy, charcoal or forest green walls. Pair it with the Faroe Islands and Lofoten designs for a northern gallery wall. Explore the full Moody Vintage Landscapes collection.

Questions & answers
Does the Kirkjufell print show the northern lights?
Yes. A ribbon of green aurora with violet edges flows across the upper sky, framed by burgundy clouds and a warm twilight glow on the horizon behind the mountain.
What is the waterfall in front of Kirkjufell?
The real mountain is famously viewed across Kirkjufellsfoss, a small waterfall on a stream near Grundarfjörður. The design shows a similar twin cascade in the foreground, composed freely to frame the peak.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
