About this artwork

A little monkey hangs by both hands from a brown, leafy branch that stretches across the top of the print. Its arms reach straight up, its knees are drawn in and its feet dangle loosely, as if it has just swung into place and paused to say hello. The round face looks straight at the viewer with big brown eyes, a cream muzzle and a wide, friendly grin, framed by russet fur and small rounded ears.

Its arms and legs are washed in dusty blue and sage green, while the chest and tummy glow a warm sand colour. A single long russet tail hangs straight down beneath the monkey and finishes in a neat spiral curl near the bottom of the sheet. About Monkeys

Most monkeys live in warm forests across Central and South America, Africa and Asia, and many spend much of their lives in the trees. They usually live in social groups called troops, and young monkeys cling to their mothers before learning to climb and swing through play. Some Central and South American species, such as spider monkeys and howler monkeys, have a gripping tail that works almost like an extra hand, while many others use their tails mainly for balance.
