About this artwork
The Old Man of Storr stands just right of centre, a black, needle-like pinnacle with a broader, crumbling stack beside it. Moss and grass climb their bases, and a slope of olive turf streaked with burgundy heather tumbles down towards the viewer, scattered with dark boulders. Mist curls up from behind the rocks, softening the cliffs on the far right.
To the left, the land drops away to a sheet of steel-blue water. Low islands and headlands lie across it, catching a thin gleam of light. Above, the sky is the drama: slate-grey cloud torn open by ochre and gold, with bands of deep burgundy drifting through. About the Old Man of Storr
The Old Man of Storr is a tall pinnacle of basalt on the Trotternish peninsula in the north-east of the Isle of Skye, in Scotland's Inner Hebrides. It was left standing by an ancient landslip along the Trotternish ridge, which created a jumble of rock towers and crags below the summit of the Storr. A popular footpath climbs to its base, with views over the Sound of Raasay towards the island of Raasay and the mainland hills. It is one of the most photographed landmarks in Scotland.

Where is the Old Man of Storr?
It is on the Isle of Skye in north-west Scotland, on the Trotternish peninsula north of Portree. The pinnacle stands below the summit of the Storr, overlooking the Sound of Raasay.
Does the print show the sea or a loch?
The water on the left reads as a calm stretch of sea with low islands, much like the view from the Storr across the Sound of Raasay. Mist and cloud keep the details soft, so the focus stays on the pinnacle.
Is a frame included?
