About this artwork
A terracotta-roofed farmhouse crowns a low hill at the heart of this Tuscany wall art, encircled by slender dark cypresses. A pale gravel road snakes up to it in loose S-bends from the foreground, past dark shrubs and a broad band of burgundy field.
Beyond the hill, the land rolls away in wave after wave of green ridges, each one separated by soft white fog lying in the hollows. Other farmhouses and a small tower sit on distant hilltops, and more lines of cypresses and winding tracks trace the slopes. The sky is wide and theatrical: slate-blue and burgundy clouds lit orange at their edges, with a strip of golden light along the horizon where the sun is just beyond the hills. It is the classic Val d'Orcia view, deepened into rich, vintage tones.
About Val d'Orcia
Val d'Orcia is the valley of the Orcia river in southern Tuscany, in the province of Siena. Its gentle clay hills, cypress-lined roads and isolated farmhouses were shaped by centuries of farming and celebrated by painters of the Sienese school during the Renaissance. The valley has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, recognised as a cultural landscape. Its towns include Pienza, rebuilt by Pope Pius II as an ideal Renaissance town, San Quirico d'Orcia and Montalcino, home of Brunello wine.

Questions & answers
Does the Val d'Orcia print show sunrise or sunset?
It is designed as dawn, with fog still lying in the valleys and a band of golden light low on the horizon. The warm, glowing sky would read just as easily as early evening.
What are the trees around the farmhouse?
Italian cypresses, the tall, narrow evergreens that line roads and frame farmhouses across Tuscany. In the print they form a dark ring around the hilltop house, with a few more rows on neighbouring hills.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
