About this artwork

Ridge after ridge of blue mountains fold into the distance in this Great Smoky Mountains poster, each a little paler than the one before, with bands of white mist lying in the valleys between them. A round ochre sun, ringed in cream, hangs in a soft golden sky with a few drifting clouds.

Closer in, a dark green forest of conifers covers the slopes, lit up by autumn trees in blazing rust, orange and yellow, their leaves gathered into simple rounded crowns. At their feet stands a small log cabin with a stone chimney, a weathered roof, small square windows and a short flight of steps, set in a meadow of golden grass. The whole scene is calm and seasonal, built from flat colour in the tradition of 1930s screen-print travel posters. It is an original ITCLabStudio design, finished with the park name and National Park · Tennessee · North Carolina on the cream band.

About the Great Smoky Mountains

Great Smoky Mountains National Park straddles the border between Tennessee and North Carolina in the southern Appalachians, and it is the most visited national park in the United States. The mountains take their name from the bluish haze that often hangs over the ridges. Established in 1934, the park protects dense, varied forests, a celebrated display of autumn colour and many historic log cabins, barns and mills, especially in Cades Cove. The Appalachian Trail follows its high crest.

How to style it

Perfect for a cosy living room, a bedroom or a cabin interior with warm wood, wool throws and earthy tones. Hang it with the Acadia design for an eastern parks pair. Explore the full Vintage National Park Posters collection.

Questions & answers

Why are the mountains blue in the Smoky Mountains poster?

Because the Smokies are known for the blue haze that hangs over their ridges. The design captures it with overlapping bands of blue, slate and navy, separated by layers of white mist and fading paler towards the horizon.

Is this a historical WPA poster of the Smokies?

No. It is a new and original design by ITCLabStudio, inspired by the flat-colour look of 1930s screen prints. It is not a reproduction of any existing poster and is not affiliated with the national park.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
