About this artwork

There is a story in every corner of this Davos ski poster. A red three-car mountain train with yellow trim and a pantograph on its roof climbs diagonally across a steep snowy slope, passengers in hats peering from its windows and a puff of white cloud trailing above. Skiers in red, yellow and navy zigzag down beside the track, poles out, as if racing the train to the valley.

At the bottom, the village crowds together: snow-heavy roofs, houses painted red, mustard and cream, wooden balconies, flower boxes and striped red-and-white awnings over little shopfronts. A snowy peak rises at top left above dark pine forest, and a golden sun shines from the right. The finished print adds a cream band at the top with Davos in large red capitals and Switzerland in small navy type.

About Davos

Davos is an alpine town in the canton of Graubünden in eastern Switzerland, and one of the highest towns in Europe. In the 19th century it became famous as a health resort, where patients with tuberculosis came for the clear, dry mountain air, a world later portrayed in Thomas Mann's novel The Magic Mountain. Skiing took hold early, and Davos is widely credited with one of the world's first T-bar lifts, opened in 1934. Narrow-gauge railways still link the valley with the rest of the canton.

How to style it

Great for a hallway, a playroom or a train lover's study, where the detail rewards a closer look. It sits well beside the Kitzbühel and Lech designs for a run of colourful alpine villages. Explore the full Vintage Ski Posters collection.

Questions & answers

Is the train in the Davos poster a real train?

It is an imagined red mountain train rather than a portrait of a specific locomotive. It nods to the narrow-gauge railways that have long served Davos and the wider canton of Graubünden, drawn in simple shapes to suit the poster style.

Who would enjoy the Davos ski poster as a gift?

Anyone who has skied or stayed in Davos, and train enthusiasts who love mountain railways. The busy, cheerful scene also makes it a good gift for a family that spends its winter holidays in the Swiss Alps.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
