About this artwork
Giant boulders shape the landscape of this Serra da Estrela ski poster. Smooth, rounded masses of speckled grey granite climb the hillside one behind another, each wearing a cap of fresh snow, with smaller stones scattered across the white slope between them. Two little stone huts with wooden doors, small windows and snowy roofs shelter among the rocks, one with a chimney and a short wooden fence, and a lone snowy peak shows in the far distance under a clear, deep blue sky.
In the foreground, a smiling skier in a red jacket, navy trousers and black helmet, red goggles pushed up, glides along on red skis. Facing the skier, a fluffy fawn dog with a pale chest and a curled tail stands in the snow, ears up, as if waiting to join in. At the top of the finished print, a cream band carries Serra da Estrela in large red geometric capitals, with Portugal in small navy letters beneath.
About Serra da Estrela
Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range in mainland Portugal, rising in the centre of the country near the towns of Covilhã, Seia and Manteigas. Its summit plateau, Torre, is the highest point on the Portuguese mainland and home to the country's only ski area. Glaciers shaped its granite landscape during the last ice age, leaving lakes and the deep, U-shaped valley of the Zêzere river. The range is also famous for Serra da Estrela cheese and for the Estrela Mountain Dog, a traditional Portuguese livestock guardian breed.
How to style it
A cheerful pick for a children's room, a family kitchen or a dog lover's hallway. It pairs well with the Zakopane design for ski scenes beyond the Alps, or with Lech for a family-friendly duo. Explore the full Vintage Ski Posters collection.

Questions & answers
Can you really ski in Portugal?
Yes. Serra da Estrela, the highest range in mainland Portugal, has the country's only ski area, up near its summit, Torre. Snow cover is less reliable than in the Alps, which makes a snowy day there feel all the more special.
Is the dog in the poster an Estrela Mountain Dog?
It is a playful nod to the breed rather than a precise portrait. The Estrela Mountain Dog is a large Portuguese guardian dog that has long worked alongside shepherds in these mountains; here a fluffy fawn dog with a curled tail keeps the skier company.
Are the boulders in the poster true to Serra da Estrela?
Yes, in spirit. The high plateau of Serra da Estrela is known for its smooth, rounded granite outcrops and scattered boulders, shaped by weathering and by glaciers in the last ice age. The design enlarges them into bold, simple forms in poster style.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
