About this artwork
Seen from above, a deep volcanic crater opens across the centre of the frame, its walls drawn as ribbed bands of terracotta and cream. Inside lie two lakes: a dark blue one at the top and a larger green one below, each split into light and shade by a soft curve. Big hydrangea heads in powder blue, coral and pale lime crowd the rim and fill the foreground with glossy leaves.
On the skyline, a cone-shaped volcano trails a wisp of smoke on the left, and an imagined art deco palace with fan-like windows and domed towers stands on the right. The sky is warm gold with drifting cream clouds. ITCLabStudio created this Azores travel poster as an original homage to 1930s travel posters; a cream band below the artwork spells out Azores in elegant navy serif letters, with Portugal under a slim terracotta line.
About the Azores
The Azores are an archipelago of nine volcanic islands in the North Atlantic, an autonomous region of Portugal. On São Miguel, the largest island, the crater of Sete Cidades holds two connected lakes, Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde, the Blue Lake and the Green Lake, whose contrasting colours make the view famous. In summer, hydrangeas line roads and field edges across the islands. The Azores are also known for hot springs, whale watching and the tea grown on São Miguel.
How to style it
Brings colour to a bedroom, a garden room or a living room with sage or blue walls. It also pairs naturally with the Madeira design for an Atlantic islands duo. Explore the full Vintage Travel Posters collection.

Questions & answers
Is the building in the Azores print real?
No. The art deco palace on the right is an imagined element that echoes the poster style. The twin lakes and hydrangeas are drawn from Sete Cidades on São Miguel, and the smoking cone is a stylised nod to the islands' volcanic origins.
Why are the two lakes different colours?
The design follows the real lakes of Sete Cidades, which often look blue and green side by side. Local legend links the colours to the tears of a blue-eyed princess and a green-eyed shepherd; the usual explanation is the lakes' different depths and what they reflect.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
