About this artwork
A row of tall half-timbered houses lines the canal like a set of storybook façades. Each has its own colour, from rust red and cornflower blue to yellow-green, teal and soft pink, criss-crossed by dark timber frames and topped with steep tiled roofs and brick chimneys. Every window carries a box of red and white flowers, and green shutters, arched doorways and little iron balconies complete the street.
At the foot of the houses, a stone quay with steps drops to the water, and an arched footbridge with black railings crosses the canal on the right. A navy wooden boat glides through the foreground, its wake breaking up reflections of colour. Above, a golden sky streaks with cream. This Colmar poster is original ITCLabStudio artwork in a 1930s art deco travel style, named in navy serif capitals with Alsace · France on the cream band below.
About Colmar
Colmar is a town in Alsace, in north-eastern France near the German border, and one of the best-known stops on the Alsace Wine Route. Its old centre is full of brightly coloured half-timbered houses, and the quarter called La Petite Venise, or Little Venice, follows the River Lauch, where flat-bottomed boats carry visitors past flower-decked façades. Colmar is the birthplace of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, sculptor of the Statue of Liberty, and its Unterlinden Museum holds the Isenheim Altarpiece.
How to style it
Cheerful in a kitchen, a family hallway or a child's room, and charming with gingham, pale wood and cottage-style furniture. Pair it with the Giethoorn design for two canal scenes full of flowers. Explore the full Vintage Travel Posters collection.

Questions & answers
What is Little Venice in Colmar?
It is a picturesque quarter of Colmar's old town along the River Lauch. Half-timbered houses with flower boxes line the water, and small flat-bottomed boats take visitors along it, the kind of scene that inspired this design.
Is the Colmar print suitable for a child's room?
Yes. The bright storybook houses, flower boxes and little boat appeal to children, while the soft paper texture and art deco styling keep it grown-up enough to move to a hallway or kitchen later on.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
