About this artwork
A grey road snakes down the left of the frame, lined with street lamps and a low stone wall, past white houses with terracotta roofs, arched windows and iron balconies. Above them, green terraces step up the hillside in long curved bands, dotted with palms. To the right, rust-red cliffs fall in sheer blocks into a deep navy ocean, with white surf at their feet.
On the horizon, volcanic peaks rise in red-brown against a pale golden sky, a nod to the island's fiery origins. The palette stays restrained, in olive, sand, terracotta and blue, and the long perspective pulls the eye from the palms in the foreground to the distant headlands. Designed by ITCLabStudio as a new take on 1930s travel art, this Madeira travel poster carries the island's name in navy capitals on a cream band at the foot of the print.
About Madeira
Madeira is a Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean, off the north-west coast of Africa, and the main island of an autonomous region of Portugal. Its volcanic landscape is steep and green, with high sea cliffs, deep valleys and farm terraces cut into the slopes. Narrow irrigation channels called levadas carry water across the mountains, and the paths beside them are popular walking routes. The island is also known for Madeira wine, its UNESCO-listed laurel forest and its capital, Funchal.
How to style it
Suits a home office, a hallway or a coastal living room with navy and terracotta accents. With the Azores design beside it, it makes a pair of Portugal's Atlantic islands. Explore the full Vintage Travel Posters collection.

Questions & answers
Why are there volcanoes in the Madeira poster?
Madeira was formed by volcanic eruptions, and the stylised cones on the skyline nod to that origin. The island's real mountains are rugged green ridges rather than bare cones, so treat them as an artistic touch rather than a literal view.
Is the road in the Madeira print a real road?
It is inspired rather than mapped. Madeira's coastal roads famously bend along cliffs and through terraced hillsides, and the design condenses that feeling into one sweeping curve past white houses and palms.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
