About this artwork

A bright red mountain train steals the show in this Wengen ski poster. Its carriages run in a steep diagonal from the top left to the bottom right, pantographs raised to the overhead wires and passengers smiling from every window, while the rails drop away down the slope. Behind it, a great snowy massif in white and navy fills the sky, with dark forested ridges falling away on the right and a few soft clouds drifting across a deep blue sky.

On the left, wooden chalets climb the terrace one above another, their balconies and window boxes spilling red geraniums. Below them, a café terrace under a cream awning is busy with people at little tables, edged by a wooden fence and a stone wall. Golden grass breaks through melting snow on the bank, hinting at a sunny late-season day. A cream title band crowns the print with Wengen in red geometric capitals and Switzerland in small navy letters.

About Wengen

Wengen is a car-free village in the Bernese Oberland, in the canton of Bern, set on a sunny mountain terrace high above the Lauterbrunnen valley. There is no road up: visitors arrive by a rack railway that climbs from Lauterbrunnen and continues over the Kleine Scheidegg pass to Grindelwald. The village looks out towards the Jungfrau, with the Mönch and the Eiger close by, and its views are among the most celebrated in the Swiss Alps. Its slopes belong to the Jungfrau ski region, alongside Grindelwald and Mürren.

How to style it

A cheerful fit for a kitchen, a breakfast nook or a hallway, and a natural gift for railway enthusiasts. It pairs with the Davos design for two red mountain trains, or with Grindelwald for a Jungfrau region duo. Explore the full Vintage Ski Posters collection.

Questions & answers

Is the train in the Wengen poster true to the village?

Yes, in spirit. Wengen has no road access, so visitors arrive by a rack railway climbing from the Lauterbrunnen valley. The red train in the design is imagined and simplified, with raised pantographs and passengers at the windows, rather than a portrait of a specific model.

Why is there green grass in the Wengen poster?

It shows a bright late-season day on the terrace, when golden grass starts to break through the snow while the high peaks stay white. That mix gives the design a warm, spring-skiing feel; this scene focuses on the village and its railway rather than on skiers.

Is a frame included?

Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.

Which size should I choose?

As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.

How is my print made and shipped?

Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
