About this artwork
A chubby panda cub sits on its bottom with its back legs stretched out, hugging a stalk of green bamboo to its chest. Sprays of slender leaves fan out to the right, and the cub smiles contentedly from behind them. Its round black eye patches, small dark eyes and button nose give it the classic panda face, softened by a dot of terracotta on each cheek.
The familiar black and white is gently warmed here: the black areas are a deep, inky blue-black and the white fur carries a glow of peach and sand around the edges. The soles of its feet show warm terracotta pads. Feathery pencil-like strokes make the coat look thick and soft. About Giant Pandas
The giant panda lives in cool, misty mountain forests in central China, where bamboo makes up almost all of its diet. An enlarged wrist bone acts like an extra thumb, helping it grip bamboo stems while it eats. Newborn cubs are tiny, pink and almost hairless, and their black-and-white markings appear over the first weeks. Thanks to long-term conservation work, the giant panda was moved from endangered to vulnerable on the IUCN Red List in 2016.

Will the panda print work in a monochrome nursery?
Yes. The black-and-white panda suits monochrome and grey schemes, while the green bamboo and warm terracotta details add a little softness. It also sits comfortably in sage, cream or natural-wood nurseries.
