About this artwork
A red squirrel sits upright on its hind legs, clutching a glossy brown acorn in both front paws as if about to take the first nibble. Tufted ears point up from its head, a bright black eye catches the light, and long whiskers spread from a small, contented smile. Its chest and tummy are clean white against a coat of warm russet orange.
The tail is the showpiece. It sweeps up and over in a great feathery curve behind the squirrel, its long strokes shifting from russet at the base into sage green and dusty blue towards the tip, so the woodland palette flows right through the animal. A pale green wash under its feet keeps it grounded. This squirrel nursery print is an original ITCLabStudio design, rendered in a soft watercolour-style illustration on a generous field of warm off-white.
About Red Squirrels
The red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) lives in conifer and broadleaf woodland across Europe and northern Asia. It is known for the tufts on its ears, which grow longest in winter. In autumn, red squirrels hide nuts, acorns and seeds in many small stores to eat later, and some forgotten caches sprout into new trees. In Britain, red squirrels have disappeared from many areas since the grey squirrel was introduced from North America, and they are a much-loved conservation symbol.
How to style it
Brings a cheerful pop of russet to a woodland nursery, a forest-themed kids' room or a cosy family hallway. Pair it with the hedgehog and badger designs for a British woodland trio. Explore the full Woodland & Safari Nursery Art collection.

Questions & answers
Is the red squirrel print a good fit for a woodland nursery?
Yes. The acorn, the russet coat and the sage-and-blue tail make it one of the most classic woodland designs in the collection. It works on its own or as part of a forest gallery with the hedgehog, badger, owl and fox.
What colours are in the red squirrel print?
Russet orange and white for the squirrel, a brown acorn, and a tail that blends russet into sage green and dusty blue. The background is warm off-white, which makes the print easy to match with oak, cream and green nursery furniture.
Is a frame included?
Only if you choose a framed format. The Natural Wood Frame and Black Metal Frame options arrive assembled with acrylic glazing and are ready to hang. The Unframed Art Print arrives without a frame, and the Aluminium and Wood Prints need no frame at all.
Which size should I choose?
As a rule of thumb, choose art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. 50 × 70 cm makes a statement above a sofa or bed, 30 × 40 cm suits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Our size guide shows every size to scale.
How is my print made and shipped?
Each print is made to order for you, then shipped with tracking from a production partner close to your address. You receive the tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves production.
